NWMC Student Scholarship Fund Policy

Purpose: The Northwest Mennonite Conference Scholarship Fund was created to help young adults with a desire to serve in full-time pastoral ministry.  The fund will encourage young adults from NWMC churches to pursue post-secondary Christian education.

Means:
1. This fund will be managed by the NWMC Youth Pastor under direction from the NWMC board.
2. Funds will be raised from our churches through various means.
3. The fund needs to become self-sustaining.  This means not giving out everything we have each year but rather trying to build up the fund so it can in and of itself provide the necessary funds each year.
4. Funds can only be distributed as they are available. An approved applicant will receive the allotted amount in the second semester of study.

Eligibility:
1. An eligible applicant will be going into a post-secondary Institution which specifically equips students for work in full-time pastoral ministry.
2. Applicants are required to attend a NWMC church and have recommendation from the Pastor and/or Youth Leader.
3. An applicant is eligible for 4 years of scholarships provided that the applicant applies.
4. Applicants must be baptized. Down through the centuries Anabaptist churches have understood water baptism as the outward visible sign of an inward spiritual change signaling the person's entrance into the Community of Faith- hence connected to the membership of the Body.

Implementation:
1. Scholarships from the fund will be sent from the NWMC office directly to the school at which the applicant is attending.
2. Scholarships will amount to $1000 per year.
3. Scholarships will be sent to the educational Institution for the second semester of study.
4. Applications need to be received prior to November 1st in order to be processed by the commencement of the second semester.
5. Applicants need to apply for the scholarship fund each year.
